Funding For CPAP
Therapy
CPAP equipment is partly government funded for most people who have an
Ontario Health Card. The Assistive Devices Program (ADP) is the branch in
the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care that will cover 75% of the cost of
your equipment up to a maximum of $780. If you are receiving social
assistance benefits from Ontario Works (OW)
or Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP),
you may be eligible for more funding.
You can find out more information
about Ministry of Health funding by contacting ADP: 1-800-268-6021 or visit
their website: http://www.health.gov.on.ca/english/public/pub/adp/cpap.html
Private health insurance policies often supplement funding. You pay up-front
for your equipment and services and then apply for reimbursement from your
insurer. If you have an extended health insurance plan, we advise contacting
your insurer before your purchase. Your insurer will need to know that OSAS
is a long-term diagnosis. Key questions to ask your insurer include:
-
Is a copy of your
CPAP prescription required?
-
What other official
documentation do they require?
-
What percentage of
your payment portion does your policy cover?
-
Is the cost of an
Extended Warranty covered?
-
Is the cost of
equipment rentals/trials covered?
-
Are you covered for
future costs of "soft goods?" (i.e. items which will need replacing after
six months to one year of usage due to wear and tear, such as masks,
headgear, hoses, and filters.)
-
Are you eligible for
coverage on replacement costs of the CPAP unit? If so, how often?
Whatever your situation, we will help you investigate options for paying for
your CPAP Therapy and equipment.
