When Charles was diagnosed with some scarring in his lungs, it didn’t have much of an impact at first. “I carried on doing everything I normally would do,” he told us. But that all changed in 2025, when he came down with pneumonia and bronchitis and ended up coughing so badly he had to go to the hospital.
“They put me on oxygen right away and told me that when I left the hospital, I would need to stay on the oxygen. That’s how I was introduced to ProResp and thank goodness for that. Ashley and Zack have been so good, I don’t know what we’d do without them,” said Charles.
Recently, Charles’s story was featured at the Brant Community Healthcare System Foundation’s Annual Gala. As the signature sponsor of the event, ProResp was happy to invite Charles to share his experience. It showcases the success of the partnership between ProResp and Brant Community Healthcare System, which ensures patients like Charles receive seamless care from hospital to home.
“The Gala was excellent,” Charles told us. “I had a great time with my ProResp friends, all dressed up in the Havana Nights theme, and we raised over $400,000!”
As Charles’s condition has worsened, his oxygen needs have increased, but he isn’t letting that slow him down. “I still try and get out of the house when I can, and Zack has set me up with liquid oxygen in my vehicle so I can still drive and go to the store, which is important to me,” added Charles. “Now I’m on the lung transplant list which is great, because I just retired a few years ago and would like the chance to get back out fishing with my friend Sean. And I want to go ziplining again!”
At ProResp, getting patients like Charles fishing and ziplining again is what inspires us. Thank you, Charles, for being such an inspiration!
