Long-Term Care Respiratory Services

Serving seniors since 1981, ProResp is the largest independent, Ontario–owned provider of community respiratory therapy offering the broadest scope of respiratory therapy services and products.

Our dedicated team works closely with your registered staff, physician, residents and families to develop and 
implement plans of care based on identified resident needs.

This collaborative approach ensures continuity of care, maximizes health care resources, and ensures optimal therapy helping achieve successful treatment outcomes.

Our Partnership Agreement includes the following benefits at no charge:

CLINICAL ASSESSMENT, SUPPORT, DOCUMENTATION - SPECIFIC TO OXYGEN THERAPY

  • Clinical services provided by fully trained Regulated Health Professionals.
  • Involvement in the residents’ care plans;
  • Monitoring and assessing residents on a regular basis;
  • Documenting all respiratory assessments in the residents’ health records including therapy and intervention recommendations;
  • Timely reporting to charge nurses or designates;
  • 24-hour emergency on call support:
    • Local Regulated Health Professional (RHP) with local Service Delivery Representative (SDR);
  • Compliance with all applicable regulations and guidelines;
  • Primary RHP and Primary SDR assigned to the Home.

 

RESPIRATORY EQUIPMENT

  • Reliable, same-day equipment delivery and therapy initiation;
  • Full range of oxygen delivery systems based on clinical and lifestyle suitability;
  • Standby oxygen concentrators and emergency backup equipment stored on-site with the necessary softgoods;
  • CSA-approved electrical equipment;
  • Service and preventative maintenance performed at our central service department by highly trained, manufacturer-authorized technicians;
  • Reliable, same-day equipment delivery and therapy initiation;
  • Consistent and scheduled delivery days;
  • Instruction and training on the safe use and care of oxygen delivery systems.


RELATED SERVICES

  • Adequate oxygen supply in the event of a power failure or emergency evacuation;
  • Infection prevention and control:
    • Masks, nasal prongs and tubing replaced on a regular basis;
    • Hand washing and stethoscope disinfection between resident assessments.

 

Value Added

TRAINING AND EDUCATION

  • CPR training with courses developed by the Heart and Stroke Foundation;
  • Qualitative N95 Respirator Fit Testing Train-the-Trainer Program;
  • Comprehensive in-service education program:
    • Training modules on Surge Learning Ltd. and in-person sessions.


DIAGNOSTICS

  • Electronic oxygen saturation monitors (oximeters) with training;
  • Clinical services for residents requiring respiratory care including complex respiratory:
    • Charges apply - funded through the Long-Term Care Allied Health Professional Staffing Supplement.


QUALITY AND ACCREDITATION SUPPORT

  • Assist in the preparation of written respiratory procedures;
  • On-site assistance with accreditation process;
  • Participation on Professional Advisory Committees, reporting on important care and service key performance indicators.
     

OTHER RESPIRATORY EQUIPMENT AND SUPPORT

  • Suction machine and supplies for each dining room area.
  • Complete line of other respiratory devices and clinical support, including aerosol therapy, CPAP, Bilevel PAP, and assisted ventilation.  Charges for this equipment apply.


RISK MANAGEMENT

  • Solicit ongoing feedback from registered staff relating to areas of potential concern.
  • Conduct regular team meetings to discuss potential concerns
  • Ensure safe practice by proactively offering equipment in-services.
  • Evaluate and adjust back up and portable oxygen equipment inventory  
  • Continuous quality improvement reporting consolidated for the Home.
