“I thought my world had ended when I was sent home from the hospital with oxygen, but it immediately changed my life for the better,” said Monica, an active person in her fifties with a rare lung disease that makes it impossible to exert herself or sleep without oxygen therapy.
“I’d been suffering from extreme headaches for years – so bad they would wake me up in the night. I couldn’t move without being winded and became panicked during any physical activity. But after that first night sleeping with oxygen, I no longer had headaches. Once I could wear oxygen in a backpack, I could finally move again without fear and the depression I was struggling with started to ease.” said Monica.
Today, Monica enjoys an active lifestyle that includes pickleball, landscaping, swimming, paddleboarding, kayaking, sailing, weight-training and long walks in the forest with her dog, Willow Sage.
“The ProResp Newmarket team has been so good to me,” Monica said. “They help me to do whatever it is I want to do and always figure out how to make it happen including how to travel around the province, how to get to an island safely for extended stays, and how to access my beloved water sports. As they got to know me and my activity level and length of time outdoors, the team quickly switched me to liquid oxygen to allow me to stay active and able to access virtually any activity I want to try. Twice now they have rescued me from the middle of the forest when my tank unexpectedly malfunctioned. When I visit my out-of-town family or direct a summer camp session for teens in cottage country, the team arranges to have a tank and concentrator waiting for me with all the necessary supplies. Most importantly, this Newmarket team is composed of the most caring and fun-loving professionals. I am grateful for the support and encouragement they provide. If your lungs are permanently broken like mine - you want ProResp in your corner.”
